Baby oil mixed with this baking soda… see more

“A 49-year-old mother looks 25 by applying this baby oil mixed with baking soda, just two drops a day for 21 days, in the evening.” Wow, that’s the kind of message that grabs attention.

The promise is as seductive as it is simple: an affordable, readily available product promising near-miraculous results. But, as a true skincare enthusiast, I know that these claims need to be examined closely and, above all, common sense applied.

Let’s start by talking about the ingredients. Baby oil is essentially a mineral oil, a highly refined petroleum derivative that acts as a powerful occlusive agent. In other words, it creates a physical barrier on the skin’s surface, locking in moisture and preventing evaporation. It’s excellent for maintaining hydration.

Skin and nail care.
However, it doesn’t provide active nutrients like vitamins or antioxidants. Sodium bicarbonate, on the other hand, is an ingredient with gentle exfoliating and alkalizing properties. It can help remove dead skin cells and balance the skin’s pH, but used in excess or with caution, it can disrupt the skin’s balance. So, why might this mixture produce visible results? Combining an occlusive oil with a gentle exfoliant can make skin smoother, brighter, and more even-toned, especially when used at night during the skin’s regeneration period. In other words, it’s not a miracle “rejuvenating” treatment that erases wrinkles or deep imperfections, but rather a treatment that improves the skin’s hydration and appearance.

This can give a more rested and youthful appearance. The key is to use it correctly and in moderation.
Here’s a recipe inspired by the image, but adapted to make it safe and effective.
