During a rally, former President Donald Trump escapes an assassination attempt

Candidate Trump had just begun his campaign speech.
At a press conference Saturday evening, the FBI confirmed that the shooting was indeed an "assassination attempt." Numerous witnesses reported seeing the shooter before the shooting and alerting the Butler police, who stated they had "responded to a number of reports of suspicious activity," without providing further details. This rally in Butler, Pennsylvania (northeast), was the last before the Republican National Convention, which begins Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and at the end of which Donald Trump is to be officially nominated as the Republican Party's presidential candidate.
His campaign team confirmed that the former president intends to attend the convention after undergoing a medical examination at the hospital as a precaution. He was seen disembarking unassisted from his plane a few hours after escaping the assassination attempt, according to a video posted on social media by his deputy communications director. The Republican candidate, who had just begun his speech with one of his usual tirades about migrants, was immediately tackled to the ground by Secret Service agents.

The shooter was "neutralized" by officers.

From the audience, cries of terror erupted, and spectators threw themselves to the ground. After a few moments, Donald Trump got to his feet, his hair disheveled and without his red cap, surrounded by officers. "Let me get my shoes," he was heard telling them. He was then escorted from the stage to his car, repeatedly raising his fist in the air in defiance, to the cheers of his supporters.

"It's unbelievable that such an act could take place in our country," Donald Trump declared on Truth in the hours that followed, risking further inflaming political rivalries. "I knew right away that something was wrong because I heard a whistling sound, gunshots, and I immediately felt the bullet tear through the skin," he explained. The U.S. Secret Service stated in a press release that the suspected gunman "fired several shots toward the scene from an elevated position outside the gathering" before being "neutralized" by agents.
