My neighbor gave me a bag of these.anyone know what they are How do you eat them

They are sweet, juicy stone fruits that ripen in early to mid-spring. The flavor is entirely unique—a delightful, refreshing cross between a sweet peach, a tangy apricot, and a hint of citrus. When they are fully ripe, they are incredibly tender and delicious.

How to Prepare and Eat Fresh Loquats

Loquats are very easy to eat fresh, but there are a few internal parts you need to discard.

Step 1: Wash and De-stem

Give the fruits a gentle rinse under cold water. Pull off any small green stems that might still be attached to the top of the fruit.

Step 2: To Peel or Not to Peel?

The skin of a loquat is entirely edible, though it can be slightly fuzzy or thick depending on the variety.

  • If you don’t mind a little texture, you can eat them with the skin on.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, simply use your fingernails to pinch the skin at the stem end; it will easily peel away in ribbons just like a ripe tomato or peach.

Step 3: Remove the Core and Seeds

Do not bite straight through the center. Loquats contain anywhere from 2 to 5 large, smooth, dark brown seeds in the middle.

  1. Use your fingers or a small knife to tear or slice the fruit in half lengthwise.
  2. Pop out the large brown seeds and discard them.
  3. Inside the cavity, you will see a thin, papery internal membrane lining the seed pocket. Gently scrape or peel that little membrane out with your finger, as it can be a bit tough and bitter.

Once the seeds and internal membrane are removed, pop the juicy flesh straight into your mouth!
